Moab

I was going for an Edward Weston feel (this picture, in particular).

So, I went to Moab last week. I told my dad I really wanted to go hiking and he threw out the idea of a quick camping trip to either Zions or Moab. I do love Zions, but I'd never been to Moab so I chose to go there instead.

After the painfully deserted drive to Moab, we set up camp and went hiking. The hike to Delicate Arch isn't even hard at all, but it sure was hot. So hot. The we-hiked-at-3:30 pm-in-the-Utah-desert-with-no-shade hot. I thought I was going to die in the first five minutes, but once I was drenched in sweat, it was all good.

A big wall... rock... thing.
You can kind of distinguish the arch on the right. My dad
wears a farmer's hat everywhere.
We hiked up from around the back of the arch to see the bowl better. This resulted in my dad and I having to go all spider-crawling it up in order not to tumble to our blistery deaths.

We hiked down, visited a few more arches (in which we even saw a desert hare. ooooh), and ate a late dinner. It was still hot at night. Heat + two man tent + my snoring father + insomnia = a bad night's sleep.

We went to Canyonlands the next day and saw a lot of old people. Actually, we saw a lot of old people the whole trip. Most of them were French or German (I know because my dad asked every single person we walked by where they're from).

After visiting the slightly uneventful Canyonlands, we drove back home. At one point my dad needed gas and just drove right past the last city for quite a while. For ten minutes he debated whether or not to turn around and get gas, in which we ended turning around. I could not figure out why he didn't just stop in the first place.

That trail you see is one long-A biking trail

I need a volleyball to talk to.

So far this summer:

The bathroom is teeming with life. (Okay, maybe not teeming, but I keep finding crawling... things.)

Our washer makes the *screech screech* noise from Psycho over and over again.

Our fridge is basically empty.

We have empty cupboards now. Eep! Too much space!

My bedroom is like an ice cave, even without a fan. This is a nice change from my usual boiler of a bedroom (my house doesn't have A/C, just a swamp cooler).

Logan is wonderful in the summer. I took a walk tonight and it felt surreal with all the trees, plants, perfect temperature and a slight summer breeze. Too bad there's NO ONE UP HERE.

I haven't really had human interaction in two and a half days. The only thing I've said to someone is "how do I get a Smith's card?" followed by the cashier handing me a Smith's card.

I took a walk out of pure boredom and ended up talking to the squirrels at Old Main hill. I concluded that I really want a pet squirrel.

There is currently a Harry Potter marathon on cable. It spurred me to watch #2 and #3 on my own to avoid commercials.

Watching Harry Potter just makes me want to meet Alan Rickman even more.

On a hike up to the Wind Caves earlier this week, I reached out to pet what I thought was a chipmunk and a rattlesnake slithered away. I have no idea how I thought a snake was a chipmunk.

I really wish I owned a bike. Or had a gym pass. Because no amount of boredom will ever make me run outside.

I checked the mail four times today.

Making Jello has become exciting.

... and that, folks, is why I could use a job.

For now, I'll keep watching Community clips. Because that show is my favorite and it's like everything I love stuffed and rolled into a new episode each week (and this week there were three new episodes! Best season finale EVER). Abed's my favorite.

Hiatus

Whoa, I totally just had an inadvertent hiatus. My bad.
You see, I had finals, went down to Cedar City for Kim's graduation, moved out, moved up the canyon temporarily, cleaned apartments for moola, and moved in to my new apartment.

Now I finally have time to recuperate.
