I'm glad my dad dug through the garage.

My Dad recently unearthed a board game he had years and years ago, and it just happens to be the most excellent board game ever.

It is The Lord of the Rings Adventure Game! And it's straight from 1979!

Look at how fabulous the box is.
I mean, Aragorn looks like a Nephite and Boromir is a viking. Not to mention Legolas has flowy, reddish/orange hair and a golden bow. The hobbits at least are accurate in size.

Oh! The characters! Left to right: Boromir, Gimli, Legolas, Sam, Frodo, Aragorn, Gandalf, Pippin, Merry.

The playing board is pretty cool. I mean, you have Bree, Rivendell and Lorien, and you also have the mines of Moria (that section with all the blackened orcs), mountain passes, the black gate and of course, Mount Doom.

These are a few of the playing cards you can have. The best one is the Boromir card, because he looks like a Viking. Also, Mountain cards are useless unless you actually plan on going through the mountains (which most people don't)

Oh! If you check back up at the board, you'll see these little delights spread across the board. Oh, the Nazgul. If you get stuck on one (which you will), you can kill them, roll a 5 or a 6, pay them a ring, or use a magic escape card to bypass them.

They look quite menacing with their glowing red eyes...

Oh! Mount Doom and the rings for playing the game. At the end of the game, you have to have at least one ring to throw into Mount Doom to win.

This may be the only area on the board where a mountain card is actually useful. But this is Shelob, obviously.

Gollum looks like a shriveled, evil monkey.

And these are the orcs. Oh, the horns and the glowing red eyes!

I'm such a Lord of the Rings freak. I'm glad my dad rediscovered this game!
